Each time you wake up, the first thing you do should be to write down as many details as you can remember from your most recent dream. At first, this likely won't be much detail. It only takes a handful of days before you start to remember a lot more detail about your dreams.

Once you've been using your dream journal for a few days, it's likely that you'll start to notice some common patterns in the dreams you've written down. Possibly you have dreams about flying through the air or even space. Possibly your dreams involve water lots of the time. It doesn't matter what your dream subject is, just go with the flow.
